Gait Belts and Transfer Belts for Caregivers

A Gait Belt or Transfer Belt is intended to be used to transfer a person from one position to another or from one location to another. This makes it safer for the actual transfer of seniors and the elderly and helps prevent caregiver injury. For example, a gait belt could be used to move a person from a standing position to a wheelchair. Gait belts are available with Quick Release Buckles or Metal Loop Buckles in standard and bariatric sizes.

When using a Gait Belt to move someone remember these handy tips:

Belts with padded handles are easier to grip and increase security and control during transfer.

Use rocking and pulling motions rather than lifting when using a belt to help move someone.

Keep a layer of clothing between the person's skin and the belt to avoid abrasion.
