A bedpan (or bed pan) is a toileting collection device used for patients confined to a bed. They are typically constructed of plastic or metal. While bedpans are more commonly used for fecal matter, they can also be used for urinary incontinence. The use of a bedpan requires the patient to raise their hip or abdominal area in order to slide the collection device underneath. When they have finished, the device is then removed.

For patients who have recently had hip surgery or do not have the ability to raise and lower themselves as is required for a standard bedpan, can use a Fractured Bedpan. These Fractured Bed Pans include a flat end for easier insertion and are generally smaller in size.
