Redware™ Basic Dinnerware Set

This basic set of Redware Dinnerware comes with a Scooper Dish, a Drinking Cup, a Fork, and a Spoon. Each has been specially designed to assist those with limited muscle control or who can only use one hand to enjoy a good meal. The contoured lip makes it easy to slide food onto silverware while the non-skid base keeps it in place. The red color provides special benefits for Alzheimer’s patients, nearly 40% of whom experience significant weight loss. The University of Boston has shown that contrast between plate and food can increases food intake among Alzheimer’s suffers by 24%.

Why red?

Almost 40% of Alzheimer's patients experience significant weight loss. A study out of Boston University suggests that the weight loss is due in part to the loss of the ability to distinguish contrast between colors.

People with Alzheimer's are not able to distinguish light colored food and drink on or in typically light colored tableware. When using tableware that offered a high contrast to the food and drink (i.e.: bright red and bright blue), researchers noticed that the participants in the study increased their food intake by 24% and liquid intake by 84% (1).
