DVD: Utopia: Laurel & Hardy
Classic comedy at it's finest with Laurel & Hardy's last movie together! A comical mess reigns when their "no laws, no taxes" policies take effect after they inherit an island.
180 Minutes (Black & White)
DVD Description:
Stan Laurel and Oliver Hardy travel to London to claim an inheritance. The cash has been eaten up by taxes, but Stan is able to claim a tax-free island and yacht that his uncle has left him. Boarding the run-down yacht, they set sail for their island with a stateless refugee who signs on as a cook, and Italian bricklayer who stows away. After surviving a storm at sea, their boat gets stranded on the rocky shore of a newly formed atoll. Nighclub singer Suzy Delair, fleeing her domineering navel-officer fiance, takes refuge with the other castaways.
Stan and Ollie and their friends live an idyllic, Robinson Crusoe-like existence until Delair's fiance shows up. He announces he hasn't come to claim her, but to investigate reports that the atoll is rich with uranium. Indeed it is, and soon every nation is clamoring to claim the atoll's radioactive deposits. Stan and Ollie take quick action, declaring sovereignty over "Crusoeland." They then devise an anarchic government over which Ollie presides. A fine comical mess reigns when their "no laws, no taxes" policies attract the attention of various unsavory types.
